Kemenuh Monkey River is located in the heart of Desa Adat Kemenuh (Kemenuh Traditional Village), Gianyar, Bali—a region renowned for its rich heritage of art, culture, and unspoiled natural beauty. More than just a nature-based tourist destination, this area is a living legacy that brings together people, wildlife, and spiritual values in perfect harmony.
Since ancient times, the riverbanks and forests of Kemenuh have been regarded as sacred grounds. The flowing river is believed to possess spiritual energy with cleansing and healing powers, and is often used by the local community for melukat—a traditional Balinese purification ritual for the soul.
Amidst lush vegetation and a tranquil atmosphere, wild monkey colonies have naturally inhabited this area for decades. They are deeply respected by the local people, not only as part of the ecosystem but also for their symbolic significance in Balinese culture.
Today, Kemenuh Monkey River has evolved into an eco-cultural park—a space for both education and recreation that promotes the importance of environmental conservation, wildlife protection, and cultural preservation. Located right next to Pura Dalem Kemenuh (a local temple), this site offers more than just sightseeing—it provides a spiritual and cultural experience that embodies the Balinese philosophy of Tri Hita Karana—the harmony between humans, nature, and the divine.
In addition to being a natural habitat for wild monkeys, the park also features sanctuaries for white monkeys, fruit bats (kalong), and bayam birds, contributing to conservation efforts while offering an engaging and educational experience for visitors.
